Marc Maron Cartoon by Neal Campbell
I found Marc Maron’s WTF Podcast last summer and blogged about it. I identify with Marc’s story. His wife left him. He didn’t understand why. His career was falling apart, so he started a podcast in his garage.
Marc’s been a comic for a long time and knows all the big names in the business. On his show, he has comics and comedy writers come to his garage where they talk about comedy and the psychology that leads people to pursue comedy careers.
Marc has insight about the human condition that blows my mind show after show. You know how they have Comedy Defensive Driving Classes? WTF Podcast is like Comedy psychotherapy. It’s entertaining, but there’s also opportunity for growth and self-improvement. The way Marc analyzes and unpacks the emotional baggage of the comics he interviews has helped me make it through this miserable stage of my life.
There are lots of things I’d like to do in my career. I would really like to talk to Marc about producing a video version of his show. I have a lot of talent, but connecting with the people I need to connect to isn’t one of them. In my weird way of approaching life, I decided to do one of my cartoon portraits of Marc Maron to express my interest in working with him on a video podcast.
