Marc Maron Cartoon by Neal Campbell

I found Marc Maron’s WTF Podcast last summer and blogged about it. I identify with Marc’s story. His wife left him. He didn’t understand why. His career was falling apart, so he started a podcast in his garage.

Marc’s been a comic for a long time and knows all the big names in the business. On his show, he has comics and comedy writers come to his garage where they talk about comedy and the psychology that leads people to pursue comedy careers.

Marc has insight about the human condition that blows my mind show after show. You know how they have Comedy Defensive Driving Classes? WTF Podcast is like Comedy psychotherapy. It’s entertaining, but there’s also opportunity for growth and self-improvement. The way Marc analyzes and unpacks the emotional baggage of the comics he interviews has helped me make it through this miserable stage of my life.

There are lots of things I’d like to do in my career. I would really like to talk to Marc about producing a video version of his show. I have a lot of talent, but connecting with the people I need to connect to isn’t one of them. In my weird way of approaching life, I decided to do one of my cartoon portraits of Marc Maron to express my interest in working with him on a video podcast.

Mark Lowry Cartoon

I have a talent for making cartoon portraits. It’s weird because I just decided I knew how to do this a couple months ago. Since one of the things Mark Lowry does is comedy, my first attempt to do a cartoon portrait of him was based on a photo I took of him making a funny face. As a cartoon, though, it looked more like he was runny from a scary circus.

I re-drew the face based on a photo of him smiling and it is definitely better with a smile.

Steve Jobs FBI File Released

Posted by on Feb 9, 2012 in Steve Jobs | 1 comment

The first President Bush was considering appointing Steve Jobs to the President’s Export Council, so the FBI investigated Steve’s background. There’s nothing in the file that needs to be protected for national security so the FBI file was made public February 9, 2012 following a Freedom of Information Act request.

It doesn’t take long to read the 192 page Steve Jobs FBI File. Download the PDF here.

The coolest little tidbit to me is that it mentions Steve’s “Reality Distortion Field.” It also covers his drug use, his daughter born out of wedlock and what associates had to say about his integrity.
