Macworld 2009

We’re planning ahead for our MacWorld coverage in January. We want to do something different that the typical tradeshow floor interviews and product features. After all, it’s Apple and Apple encourages to think different.

We booked a hotel room and we’ll be in San Francisco from January 4th – 10th. Capturing video is easy. Post-production isn’t hard but it’s a massive time suck. Our goal is to get help with editing and segment planning.

Some shows use volunteers. We’ll need that, but I wouldn’t feel great about using voluteer editors. We have a lot of planning to do.

Shooting GeekBrief.TV at the State Fair of Texas

Saturday we’re having a meetup at The Great State Fair of Texas. In addition to the Corney Dogs, Fried Green Tomatoes and (added this year) Chicken Fried Bacon, I’m particularly excited that we’ll be able to shoot some episodes of GeekBrief.TV in a smart home exhibit put together by women engineers called SmartHouse: On the Cutting Edge of Going Green (I’m ignoring the going green nonsense – we’ll focus on efficiency).

Someone tweeted Cali to ask if we would be interested in shooting, and Cali’s first response was to ask for proof that it was a smart home. Last year’s “House of the Future” was a mobile home of last Thursday. It looks like this one might be legit.

Typically, Smart Homes are just glorified showcases put together by huge brands. Don’t get me wrong. The HP Smart Home would be an awesome place to live (if I could bring my Macs), but to me, more diverse technology makes a smart home smarter.

Details about the meetup are here on this post at GeekBrief.TV.

The Enemies of Strong Women

Sarah Palin stood up to the good ‘ol boys in Alaska and now they’re out to get her. It’s pretty hilarious. Apparently … according to the crappy ass guys … Sarah Palin is PRO rape.

I know her enemies want to paint her as a radical, but no one is THAT radical. Here’s the stuff they’d like us to be influenced by:

@ Jonathan Freedland … whoever you are

We’re not voting for a president based on what the reast of the world thinks. The reast of the world values the disaster of socialism. Barak fights for socialism in the U.S. and we reject it. We are the country of “live free or die.” Continue to cheer for the guy who stands against individual liberity because it steadies our reslove to resist the opression of socialism. Elitist who think they know better than the rest of us do not have a chance in our nation’s politics (I hope).

Our nation is founded on the principle that all of us are created equil with the freedom to pursue happiness. Taxation and socialism is all about restricting our freedome to pursue happiness. That’s why we reject Europen influence. You guys don’t have our best interest at heart. We love that you support Barak’s insane ideology. The idea that governement can and should help me is the most worthless idea ever prepossed. Government only has one repsonsibility to good Americans: Get out of our way!

Everything we need to suceed is provided to us by liberty. Jesus died to set us free. The world supports Obama’s desire to hold us down. That’s change I’ll fight to prevent.

I’m Voting for Palin!

I left the Republican Party when Republicans stopped standing for reduced government spending. I’m socially liberal and fiscally conservative, so neither the Republican Party or the Democrat Party are good fits for me any way. I’m a Libertarian and I wish a Libertarian with a chance of winning would run, but I’m not holding my breath.

Having just watched Sarah Palin speak after McCain introduced her as his V.P. pick, I’m excited! I’m ambivalent about McCain and dead set against Obama’s socialist agenda, but Sarah Palin? I like her! She’s smart. She’s real. She’s strong. She’s likable. She’s articulate, and heck, she’s hot!

I’ve never been a big fan of guys, so I would love to see Sarah Palin become the first woman president. Granted, I don’t know a lot about her, and I’ll have to register to vote, but at first glance … WOW!

Interesting facts about Palin are at the disrepectfully (but accurately) named: VPilf.com

Apologies to Gabe

In the world of tech media, Cali and I live far away from the action. We live in Dallas and we don’t get many opportunities to break stories, although we’re learning how. Breaking stories on video is not a very efficient way to get news out.

Techmeme is our absolute favorite technology Web site. Gabe Rivera built it to agregate tech stories that matter so they rise to the top. It’s the one site I wouldn’t want to live without.

It was a major goal for us to get on Techmeme and we did it with our story about Woopra (thanks to some link love from Mike Arrington). It isn’t our goal every day though. We mostly want to put out a tech show that makes people smile and we only want to be on Techmeme when we think a story merits it.

Last night, we released a Brief about Zac White’s OpenClip project that brings copy and paste to the iPhone. The story is important (at least to iPhone owners and tech news junkies like us). Cali worked hard to get the news out first so when we hit Publish, our emotions were all over the place. There’s no way to describe what being first to a story is like.

The story didn’t immediately hit Techmeme. I don’t know how long it should take, but it took longer than I thought it should. I tweeted that the “Techmeme algorithm is sexist.” It was a joke…a bad joke. Later when the story made Techmeme, I tweeted that “I take it back. The Techmeme algorithm isn’t sexist.”

I want to publically apologize to Gabe. Gabe, you’ve built what I think is the most valuble resources for tech news junkies on the Web and I’m sorry for what I tweeted about your algorithm.

Wish You Could’ve Known Cali’s Dad

Cali’s Dad is Tullio Petrucci. I’m convinced he’s watching over everything we do. He lived his life as an artist who focused on the audience. The name of his company was Interactive Entertainment. He cared about a two way, three way or four way interchange between the audience and the producer.

He would have totally gotten what we’re doing with GeekBrief.TV and he would have inspired us to do a better job. Actually, I think he does.

We lost him before we started the show. It sucks and we hate not having him as a visibly active part of what we do. Tullio Petrucci, father of Luria Petrucci (aka, Cali Lewis) was/is an amazing man. He accepted me and my love for his daughter. I couldn’t have done that so gracefully because she is way too exceptional.

It’s around the anniversary of when we lost him. We wish he was actively, physically here advising us and helping us succeed. It’s hard not to believe, though, that he’s here in spirit helping more than he possibly could in the flesh.

I Would LOVE No More Night!
